Coastal Lands

Our region’s scenic coast is emblematic of California. It is perhaps the last rural and accessible shoreline in the world within a major metropolitan area. Rolling hills, windswept bluffs and family farms are just a short drive from the bustle of Silicon Valley. Both residents and visitors enjoy beaches, hikes along the California Coastal Trail and the fresh, local foods that this region provides. Unique habitats which exist here, such as coastal terrace prairie, are some of the most diverse in the world. Endangered coastal salmon rely on its waterways. Yet encroaching development and rising sea levels make this area more fragile than ever.

By protecting these cherished coastal lands, The Living Landscape Initiative will not only preserve a valued way of life, but also help keep our oceans clean and marine life healthy.
